Tonya Baggett DPT, MPT, CIE, CEES is a licensed physical therapist with expertise in the
fields of physical therapy and ergonomics. She is a distinguished recipient of
The Certified Industrial Ergonomist (CIE) by The Oxford Research Institute and
The Certified Ergonomic Evaluation Specialist (CEES) by Roy Matheson &
Associates. The expected skill level of a CIE is to reach beyond
identification of ergonomic risk factors to a level of job analysis with identification-
both subjective and objective- to performing a comprehensive and testable
solution to all ergonomic problems or conditions. In addition to classroom
hours, all CIE’s must have five or more years of experience in ergonomics,
Masters level or higher of education, proof of work samples with technical
contributions over at least four years of continuous work experience, and
recommendations from two colleagues working in the same field. Tonya
successfully completed and was awarded the CIE designation in 2009
As a CEES Tonya was certified establishing
and implementing an ergonomics program, identifying and measuring risk factors,
using the standard ergonomic evaluation forms including ANSI Z-365, NIOSH Lift
Equation and OSHA forms, and performing ergonomic evaluations manual material
handling including power and manual tool design, and postural interface in the
office and industrial environments. This designation is only open to
safety and allied health professionals and competency is determined by peer
review of ergonomic evaluation reports. The Certified Ergonomic
Evaluation Specialist is recognized by corporations across North America, Asia,
Africa, and the United Kingdom.
As a physical therapist in the
outpatient clinic, Tonya’s excellence prevails with her successful treatments
of injuries related to repetitive strain injuries like Adhesive Capsulitis or
“Frozen Shoulder”, double-crush syndrome, carpal tunnel syndrome, and low back
pain. Utilizing this knowledge from her hands-on clinical assessments,
Tonya is an expert in identifying risk factors associated with repetitive
strain injuries while in the work place. She has worked in the areas of office,
laboratory, and industrial ergonomics, sport-specific rehabilitation,
and orthopedics. She has had the privilege of lecturing at Silicon Valley
based companies such as Calpine Corporation, National Semiconductor, Sun
Microsystems, Adobe, Intuitive Surgical, Caltrans, City of Millbrae, City of
Half Moon Bay, Kateeva, Chalgrens, Synaptics, EdSource, and biotechnology
companies- XDx. Inc and CardioDx Inc. With over six years and 3,000 hours
of hands on ergonomics experience, Tonya Baggett is leading others in ergonomic
